2011 Show Music
Hey everyone! Let's keep the Firework Spirit going all year! No, we don't have to blow stuff up at home, but when you are listening to the radio, if Fireworks start popping off in your head, send us your recommendation! If Fireworks keep popping off in your head after the music stops, well, see a doctor.
GET READY for SWEET 16! THANK YOU in advance for your contribution to the discussion!
Kev & Bill
Bill you will have to consider Katy Perry’s chart topper Fireworks. She has her video and song on the site.

I would suggest the Fox Brothers – Red, White, & Blue… I just saw a video of them performing this song at an awards show in Nashville. its a great song, and patriotic…. Great for fireworks!!!!
Thanks
Rock around the Clock
Bill Haley and the COMETS (and some comets in next year’s show!)
I haven’t had much time to look for music yet, but I want to renew my offer to assist in any sound engineering-type tasks. Recording, editing, etc. Let me know if I can help in any way.
Here’s a quick music list I put together, some fast, some slow:
It’s America – Rodney Atkins
Coming to America – AIRO (Featuring Brule’)
Home – Daughtry
Blossom Scented Breeze – Gradymusic
Citizen/Soldier – 3 Doors Down
Home Sweet Home – Carrie Underwood
America – Brokn Sleep
America – Jewel

Something different, but likely good fireworks music:
America – Tongue Dried Sun
America – Masquerade
America – Amarillo Star
Pre-Show Lead in Music:
Sight of My Homeland – Tim Janis
Sunrise Over the Ocean – Tim Janis
The Flag Parade (From Episode I) – John Williams
I’m embarassed to send yet another list but it seems word got out and people keep sending me suggestions – never know what “sticks” so I’ll send them and maybe something will strike your fancy.
Get your Kicks on Route 66
Yankie Doodle Boy
Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy
Armed Forces Medley
Star Wars theme
Sing Sing Sing (segment as it is 9.5 min. long)
Hope your hunt is going well!
Thanks everybody… there are some excellent fireworks songs here!
Um…that should be John Groban, not Broban. Still working on something patriotic that hasn’t been done to death.
I have decided after listening to “all” of the music, including pieces offered by my next door neighbor’s 16 year old (oh help) that I need a better sound system on my computer. Here’s the list as we see it from the Chicago burbs. I should mention I could only find the past 2 years videos so I hope I don’t duplicate some past contributions:
Every Breath You Take – Sting
You’ll be in my Heart-Phil Collins
You Shook Me all Night Long – AC/DC
Start Me Up-Rolling Stones
“America the Song” by Dustin James, sung by Brittany Black
Colours of the Wind – Vanessa Williams
Hallelujah Song – Julianna Hough
Sweet Caroline – we like the Elvis version
Boom Boom Pow – Black Eyed Peas
Can’t Help Falling in Love with You – Andrea Boucelli
Musikkfeat-John Rock – Summer Lovin
Zip – A – Dee- Doo – Dah by Aly and AJ
A Whole New World – Nick Lachey & Jessica Simpson
You Raise Me Up – John Broban
Minnie the Moocher – Blues Brothers
Rawhide – Blues Brothers
Soul Man – Blues Brothers
Twist & Shout (shake your tail feathers) – Blues Brothers
Somewhere Over the Rainbow – we like Israel Kamakawiwo (Hawaiian version)
When you Wish Upon a Star
OK, I’m going to go crazy and throw some stuff out – some stuff people didn’t know existed. Don’t be scared!
Montrose Space Station #5. That could be a great opener with the spacey long intro. Has kind of a rocket/space theme.
ELP – Karn Evil 9; Still you turn me on
Steely Dan Kid Charlemagne.
Neil Young just got the lifetime achievement award. How about After The Gold Rush? Michael Jackson got it too so you might want to include him as well. Billy Jean is good.
Luiz Bonfa a day in the life of a fool manha de carnaval.
Fried neckbones (Santana version).
Entre Abismos by Linda Ronstadt. Yeah, I got that right. Look it up on youtube!
Norah Jones Don’t Know Why (because it sounds good).
Propellerheads & Shirley Bassey – History Repeating.
Hot Club of Cowtown – Tchavolo Swing. Gotta move fast on this one!
Grateful Dead – St. Stephen; Shakedown Street; US Blues. Perhaps a Dead medley?
Pink Panther by Henry Mancini.
Robin Trower – Bridge Of Sighs
The Tubes – White Punks On Dope
STARZ – “Cool One” (might be a little racy)
Gamma – Voyager
Sarah McLachlan – Building A Mystery
Janis Joplin- Summertime
You really hit a home run last year with Phil Collins “In the Air Toniight”. I did not go thru the old videos but I did compile a list of songs. For the patriotic songs you are limited and as you mentioned you have already used Lee Greenwood too many times. You can go traditional with something like
Hail to the Chief http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ey4MdU290wY or some of my other favorites are Neil Diamond’s “America” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3S7mlRYL-8 and Neil Young’s “Rock in the Free World” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQccK0F1_iY. This is a newer song which may be too slow and more of a world melody but a great song; Israel Kamakawiwo’s Somewhere over the Rainbow http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ltAGuuru7Q
You have probably used many of these but here are some older songs; many having the fireworks related theme or just great songs that get people to their feet.
Elton John’s “Rocket Man” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzrKlEtxTx4
Norman Greenbaum’s “Spirit in the Sky” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bplEcbzjME
Rolling Stones “Hang Fire” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zJ-d0bb_Wo
Michael Jackson “Don’t stop till you get enough” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HrPTDU40hO4
Power Station “Some like it hot” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgYqIvnPvqQ
Billy Idol’s “Mony Mony” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAmgTNATJkk
Smith’s “How Soon is Now” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_U5HpeA_WSo
Alphaville’s Forever Young http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7CuJ8cR9sg
Elvis “A Little Less Conversation” REMIX http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0vXxH1IEmQ
Asia’s “Heat of the Moment” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlTvWvfEMxE
Clash’s “London Calling” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfK-WX2pa8c
Jim Hendrix’s “Fire” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U88KuWxayLg&feature=related
Here are some songs which are newer that I really like besides the two I mentioned before:
Verve’s Bitter Sweet Symphony” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zx3m4e45bTo
Jamioraqui’s “Canned Heat” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGjC0wbUXzk
Lady GaGa’s “Poker Face” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOAGZtLQ0jw
Snoop Dogg’s “Beautiful” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktmvnKAGoks
Propellerheads “Spy Break” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCBL33NKvPA
I am sure this is too much information but more is better right????
Great ideas! Please keep them coming. You all have access to 7 years of show videos, so feel free to give them a listen. I’ve got no problem bringing back some pieces we’ve used in past years. For instance, our 2005 soundtrack has always received a popular vote with the crew as one of our best. I’m considering bringing back Fox Brothers “Red White and Blue” as a patriotic song… it has a good false finale element to it. Your thoughts? And as good as it is, I just can’t bring myself to use Lee Greenwood again this year… it’s almost gone the way of Whitney Houston’s Star Spangled Banner – her rendition is truly the gold standard for patriotic finales, but we used it, and used it, and used it……. I know there’s something else out there… so let’s find it!
Thanks again!
My next door neighbor is a musician. We’re going to listen to 20,000 CD’s tomorrow. Off the top of my head – Cecilia by Simon and Garfunkle.
I am so glad you asked. I have been thinking about this one song since last year which is “Let it Rock” by Kevin Rudolf. Here is the link listen on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQJiQr7Fgsw
(Chorus)
Because when I arrive
I, I bring the fire
Make you come alive
I can take you higher
what is this, forgot?
I must now remind you
Let It Rock
Let It Rock
Let It Rock
Here is the link listen on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQJiQr7Fgsw
Another song which is a more recent release is Boom Boom Pow from the Black Eyed Peas. Here is the link to listen on you tube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9H3AP53ROk
These are 2 great songs and there is a lot of different things you can do with them to incorporate into the show. I hope you like them.
Proud to be an American by Lee Greenwod. Unless you have already done it.. which I am sure you have.. Can you list the songs you have already done? That may help with coming up with something new.
I would suggest some TOOL – straight from the NAVY commercials
Okay, let’s get things started! Suggestions? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
